Renaud Duval, MD MD

Dr. Renaud Duval received his MD from McGill University and his ophthalmology residency training from Université de Montréal.  He completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship in Chicago, Illinois at Rush University and Illinois Retina Associates. He is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in the management of medical and surgical diseases of the retina.  He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology of the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal.  He serves as the Ophthalmology Fellowship Director for Université de Montréal. He has a busy surgical practice as the Chief of Retina at Centre Universitaire d’Ophtalmologie – Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont where he sees patients, operates, teaches medical students and residents, trains vitreoretinal fellows, and supervises a research fellow in artificial intelligence for ophthalmology.

 He has co-authored a book chapter on vitrectomy for the repair or retinal detachments and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles.  He has been involved in numerous clinical trials as principal investigator or co-investigator.  He has won several awards for his surgical videos, which have been presented locally and internationally.  His research interests include the integration of deep learning algorithms for the analysis of fundus and OCT images, tele-ophthalmology, and surgical innovation through the development of new surgical tools.
