
Claudio Trindade M.D.
Claudio Trindade is an Anterior Segment Surgeon in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he runs a private practice with 4 other doctors.
In 2013, Claudio partnered with German IOL manufacturer Morcher, to develop the XtraFocus implant, a small aperture implant to be used in cases of irregular corneal astigmatism. In 2016 the XtraFocus reached the market after receiving CE Mark.
For this project, he received important awards, including the AAO Best of Show Award, the 2015 MIT Innovator of the Year Award, the 2017 ASCRS Grand Prize.
In the following years, he collected important data that allowed to fine-tune indications, determine the limitations and establish, what he calls, an intraocular approach to corneal topographic irregularities.
Apart from Ophthalmology, Claudio has a very active lifestyle and is enthusiastic about tennis, guitar playing, photography and filmmaking.
Currently, he lives in Belo Horizonte Brazil with his wife and 2 kids, 10 and 6.
