Eric D. Gaier, MD, PhD is a physician-scientist in the Department of Ophthalmology at Boston Children’s Hospital. After graduating from the dual doctoral degree program at University of Connecticut, he completed Ophthalmology residency training at Mass. Eye and Ear and Harvard Medical School, followed by clinical fellowships in neuro-ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. His clinical and surgical practices are comprised of pediatric neuro-ophthalmology and adult strabismus. He is an NIH-funded clinician-scientist who studies the neuroscience underlying amblyopia and its treatment using a mouse model at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is Director of Ophthalmology Resident Education at Boston Children’s Hospital, overseeing the pediatric site rotations for two residency programs, and he mentors medical students, residents, and fellows.
