Dr. Darana Yuen has developed her niche in the Greater Toronto Area as a refractive cataract–glaucoma surgeon. Her surgical cases are performed at Uptown Surgical Center where there is access to the femtosecond laser and multiple platforms of sophisticated lens technology. Her considerable expertise in glaucoma lasers (trabeculoplasty, iridoplasty, iridotomy, etc.), traditional glaucoma surgeries (e.g. trabeculectomy, glaucoma drainage devices, etc.) as well as advanced cutting-edge glaucoma surgical interventions (e.g. XEN, iStent, Ex-PRESS mini shunt, CyPass, MicroPulse Cyclo G6, etc.) allow for many alternatives to attain eye pressure control.

Canadian trained, Dr. Yuen attended medical school at the University of Alberta, residency at the University of Western Ontario, and surgical glaucoma fellowship at the University of Toronto under the mentorship of Drs Graham Trope and Yvonne Buys. As a faculty member at the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, she is engaged in the training of residents and medical students.

Over the years Dr. Yuen has earned prestigious academic accolades,including the Best Resident Presentation at the University of Western Ontario Department of Ophthalmology annual research day in 2007, Canadian Ophthalmology Society Award for Excellence in Research in 2008, and the Best Fellow Research Day Paper Presentation at the University of Toronto Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences annual research day in 2010. Dr. Yuen currently holds the role of site principal investigator for the Phase 3 prospective multicenter randomized clinical trial involving Bimatoprost Sustained Release. MicroPulse cyclophotocoagulation is another area of clinical research interest. She serves as a reviewer for the Canadian Journal of Ophthalmology, and has been sought after as an invited guest speaker for various organizations and meetings such as the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Glaucoma Research Society of Canada, Toronto Ophthalmology Society, Canadian Ophthalmology Society, Canadian Glaucoma Society, etc.
