David Yan MD

Dr. Yan studied engineering at University of Toronto (Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering) and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering) prior to entering the field of medicine. He went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Toronto. He has been a staff Ophthalmologist at Mount Sinai Hospital for over 20 years, specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma and complex cataract surgery. He is the Director of Glaucoma Service both at Mount Sinai Hospital and Kensington Eye Institute and has also held staff positions at University Health Network and St. Joseph’s Health Centre. He has been the Chair of the Canadian Glaucoma and Cataract Research Council and President of the Canadian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Yan is the Founder of the Toronto Ophthalmology Residency Introductory Course (TORIC), the first training program in any medical speciality attended nationally by all Canadian residents. He served as TORIC Director for 17 years, during which he trained ~700 residents from across Canada and the West Indies. Dr. Yan’s research interests include aqueous outflow, medical and surgical glaucoma therapy and optic nerve imaging.
