This symposium has been co-developed by the Canadian Ophthalmological Society (COS), the Canadian Retina Society (CRS), and the Canadian Uveitis Society (CUS) and Abbvie to achieve scientific integrity, balance and objectivity.
At the end of this symposium, participants will be able to:
- Describe the advantages and limitations of various treatment strategies for uveitis, including local and systemic therapies, and choose the most appropriate line of therapy for different uveitis presentations
- Indicate the advantages and limitations of anti-VEGF agents in treating intraocular neovascularisation or macular edema secondary to uveitis vs. other vasculopathic causes of these conditions
- Identify patients for whom topical and periocular corticosteroids are likely to be effective and timely vs. patients with uveitis who warrant oral corticosteroid or systemic immunomodulatory treatment
- Evaluate when implants or systemic therapy is the preferred option
- Define the indications and develop a treatment plan for systemic immunosuppression in uveitis
- Describe a novel model of collaborative care between ophthalmology and rheumatology and the benefits for patients with uveitis
