Carla J. Siegfried, MD est titulaire du poste de professeure émérite d’ophtalmologie Jacquelyn E. and Allan E. Kolker, MD et vice-présidente, Diversité, équité et professionnalisme à l’Université Washington de St. Louis. Née à St. Louis (Missouri), elle est diplômée du programme combiné de baccalauréat et médecine de l’Université de Missouri-Kansas City. Elle a réalisé sa résidence en ophtalmologie à l’Université de l’Illinois à Chicago, suivie d’une bourse de recherche sur le glaucome à la Northwestern University.
Elle a occupé différents postes d’enseignement à titre de directrice du programme de résidence, de directrice des bourses de recherche sur le glaucome et de responsable des cours des étudiants en médecine. Ses recherches ont porté sur le stress oxydant et les inégalités raciales du glaucome. La Dre Siegfried a siégé à de nombreux comités et occupé plusieurs postes de direction au sein de l’American Academy of Ophthalmology et de l’American Glaucoma Society. Elle est actuellement présidente du Comité de déontologie de l’AAO. Elle est notamment récipiendaire d’un prix du secrétariat et d’un prix d’excellence pour réalisations supérieures de l’AAO, du prix Shaffer de la Glaucoma Research Foundation pour ses recherches innovantes sur le glaucome, et elle a été intronisée à l’American Ophthalmological Society en 2019.
