As Senior Vice President, Creative Affairs for Fox Stage Productions, Isaac Robert Hurwitz is responsible for overseeing the development and production of new plays and musicals based on the legendary Twentieth Century Fox film catalogue and serves as the studio’s liaison to the Broadway community. Before joining Fox in 2013, Hurwitz co-founded the New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and served as its executive director and producer for ten years. Under his leadership, NYMF premiered more than 350 new musicals, leading to additional productions for nearly 90 shows (including three Broadway productions, 24 off-Broadway productions, and many more around the country and the world). Among these were such now-popular titles as Altar Boyz, [title of show], Next to Normal (originally Feeling Electric), The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Gutenberg! The Musical! and many others. NYMF received the 2005 Jujamcyn Theaters Prize for its contributions to the art form, and Hurwitz received both the 2010 Encore Award from the Arts and Business Council of New York and a special Drama Desk Award in 2013 for his work at the Festival. With a varied background as a producer, director, and musician, Hurwitz worked on more than a dozen productions for the acclaimed City Center Encores! series, where he served as music associate from 2000-2003. He continued to serve as a member of the Encores! Advisory Board until 2010. From 2002 until 2004, Hurwitz was director-in-residence at Ensemble Studio Theatre and ran EST’s musical theatre development program, The Rusty Magee Music Project. In 2012 and 2013, Hurwitz co-produced the commercial production of Anthony Rapp’s Without You at the Menier Chocolate Factory in London and at the Panasonic Theatre in Toronto. Hurwitz has been a guest lecturer on topics related to new musical theatre development at Brown University and NYU-Tisch School of the Arts, and he has presented at conferences and symposia in New York, Los Angeles, London, and Seoul. He is an alumnus of Brown University, the Lincoln Center Directors' Lab and the Commercial Theatre Institute, and a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
