Did you know you can turn your personal smart phone into an Orion Navigation tool? In this session you will learn how to calibrate your smartphone camera just like the Orion flight cameras in the Electro-optics lab at JSC, and then use the camera to “fly” a trajectory toward a simulated moon. During this lesson that can be taken back to your classroom Dr. Greg Holt, Orion Navigation Lead, NASA JSC, will be sharing with us the basic math and physics behind the Orion optical navigation system, which is a key safety system for the crew to make their way through cislunar space and back to Earth if they lose communication with the ground. A laptop will help you follow along with this session, but is not required.
