GPS system and Relativity
What:
Session
When:
1:15 PM, Friday 7 Feb 2020
(1 hour 30 minutes)
Where:
Space Center Houston (Hosting of all events take place on-line-virtually)
- Learning Innovation Center- Lab 1
How:
Students investigate how the Ground Positioning Satellite (GPS) system depend on Einstein's theories of general and special relativity to function. Hands on activities at the grade 9 level explore how they determine the location of a receiver on Earth. Grade 10 activites explore speed and vector calculations of the satellites, and Physics 1 and 2 activites explore Einstien's ideas and inertial frames. Participants leave with a full resource kit.
