Aymette Medina has been teaching for 15 years, the past three as CTE Teacher at Odyssey Academy Galveston Campus, where she is responsible for multiple STEM projects. Her previous work experience includes teaching at different levels, including college, and managing educational programs for several universities in Puerto Rico and non-profit organizations. Ms. Medina is the former Marine Advanced Technology Education Center (MATE) Coordinator for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. She was also the Puerto Rico and Polk County SeaPerch Regional Coordinator. She is currently coordinating the Houston-Galveston SeaPerch Region in her free time. Ms. Medina is a graduate of University in Puerto Rico for her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Management of Non-profit Organizations. She grew up in Ponce, Puerto Rico and lives in Houston, Texas.

Since her arrival, Odyssey Academy has been winning multiple STEM competitions such as NASA TechRise Challenge, Cubes in Space, and SeaPerch Challenge. During the 2021-22 school year, she marked a precedent with 13 projects flying in three different vehicles, NASA Sounding Rocket, NASA High Altitude Balloon, and Raven Aerospace High Altitude Balloon, positioning Odyssey Academy as the only school in Texas with such a number of experiments flying to space. Determined to break the record, Ms. Medina started the 2022-23 year winning the Congressional App Challenge, having 17 projects for Cubes in Space, and a rocket designed to fly 1 mile carrying 1 pound of scientific payload as part of the SystemsGo rocketry program. Thanks to Mary Moody Northen Endowment, Ms. Medina will perform 40 different experiments on the Zero-G plane when she expects to conduct a lesson at different levels of gravity as a tribute to Christa McAuliffe and Joe Acaba. She was also a key factor for Odyssey winning and hosting the NASA In-Flight Downlink with Astronauts Frank Rubio and Steven Bowen in August 2023, bringing an out-of the world opportunity for Odyssey Academy students at the district level.

Ms. Medina is an ambassador of many STEM programs such as SeaPerch, Space Foundation Teacher Liaison, Space Station Ambassador, and Cubes in Space. She is also a member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). In addition, she is a volunteer in different educational programs mentoring Hispanic students in and outside the US and the founder of several scholarships for girls and Hispanic students interested in space education. Ms. Medina has been a presenter for NASA Space Exploration Educator Conference (SEEC) in Johnson Space Center, NASA Space Port Area Conference for Educators (SPACE) in Kennedy Space Center, EduROVS Underwater Robotics Congress in Spain, and presented at the OCEANS Conference in Limerick, Ireland in June 2023. Ms. Medina is also a liaison with VICOROB, an underwater robotics program at the University of Girona, Spain, writing several collaborations for different European journals related to youth education and engineering.

Recognitions include the 2024 Space Center Houston Cherri Brinley Outstanding Educator Award, the 2024 recognition by the Senate of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the 2023 AIAA Trailblazer Educator Award, and the 2017 AIAA Puerto Rico Youth Chapter Educator Award.
