Joan S. Friedman (NY '80) is Associate Professor of History and Religious Studies at The College of Wooster. She served as a congregational rabbi and college chaplain before completing her doctorate in Jewish history at Columbia University in 2003. As a rabbinic student she was a founding member of the Women's Rabbinic Network and worked for Eugene Borowitz z"l as Editorial Assistant of Sh'ma: a journal of Jewish responsibility. She is Vice Chair of the CCAR Responsa Committee,with which she has been associated for the last 25 years. Her monograph "Guidance, Not Governance": Rabbi Solomon B. Freehof and Reform Responsa was a 2013 National Jewish Book Award Finalist.
