Course Description: Cataract surgery and the implantation of an IOL in in cases with reduced capsular support remains challenging for many surgeons. Capsular hooks can aid a surgeon complete the surgery while minimizing the risk of vitreious loss and further capsular degradation. Capsular tension rings and segments allow the surgeon to place their chosen IOL into the capsular bag and minimize the risk of lens subluxation. Attendees will gain experience with capsular hooks, capsular tension rings and segments in a wetlab setting.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Describe when a capsular tension ring, segment or support hook would be needed.
2. Describe the approach for using capsular tension rings, segments and support hook.
3. Perform insertion and removal of capsular support hooks and insertion of capsular tension rings and segments.
