Wanda Ottar Pfeifer is currently Associate Director of the University of Iowa Orthoptic Fellowship program and Coordinator of the University of Iowa Electrophysiology service.  

Ms. Pfeifer graduated from the Izaak Walton Children’s Hospital School of Orthoptics and Ophthalmic Medical Technology.  Since then, she has been at the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science where she has been actively involved in the teaching of orthoptic students, medical students, residents, and fellows for the past 30 yrs.  Recently, Ms. Pfeifer completed her master’s in medical education through the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.  

Ms. Pfeifer is actively involved in research.  As an electrophysiology coordinator, she helped propel the University of Iowa to a national reputation in ocular gene therapy and in unique clinical service to children. She assisted in the creation and development of an electrophysiology suite that draws patients from across the nation. She is a member of the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology (ISCEV) and is involved in the education of electrophysiology technicians. 

In addition, Ms. Pfeifer works with KidSight on the weekends as its only analysis.  KidSight is a statewide screening program that uses a photo screener to help identify children with amblyopia risk factors. She has analyzed over 6000,000 images, helping countless children, in the state of Iowa, improved or retained their eyesight.  In 2020 she was the recipient of the University of Iowa Board of Regents Staff Excellence Award for her contributions to research and education.
