
Dr. Paolo S. Silva is a Staff Ophthalmologist and Co-Chief of Telemedicine at the Beetham Eye Institute, Joslin Diabetes Center, and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. His work focuses on leveraging technology and clinical innovation to deliver effective, evidence-based eye care for people with diabetes. An expert in ocular telehealth, ultrawide-field retinal imaging, and artificial intelligence, Dr. Silva has authored over 160 scientific publications and received more than 30 national and international awards. His research, supported by the NIH, Google Cloud, Lions Club International, the UK Newton Fund, and the Philippine Department of Science and Technology, continues to advance diabetic retinopathy screening. Most recently, he was awarded the 2024 “Passion to Find a Cure” Grant by the Beatson Foundation to incorporate artificial intelligence approaches and health technology innovations to increase efficiency and improve outcomes in diabetic retinopathy screening programs.
