In 2021, dozens of members of the fair trade community collaborated on writing and editing The Fair Trade Handbook: Building A Better World, Together. The final product is a 236-page book published by Fernwood and selling in bookstores and through on-line sales throughout the country. Chapters include examining some fair trade commodities such as coffee, bananas, sugar and clothing, documenting the history and effectiveness of fair trade, and confronting broader issues such as colonialism, immigration and sustainability. The 2024 Fair Trade Conference session on the Handbook will give those interested an opportunity to hear from some of the chapter authors about the issues they tackled and how they think the book can be used to educate and mobilize Canadians on fair trade.
