Participates in 1 Session

Robin Bourke, P.Eng. is a professional engineer with the Emergency Management and Programs Branch of Public Safety Canada.  He joined the federal government in 2017 after 10 years as a consulting engineer, and has a background including international development, expedition guiding, and wilderness training including teaching survival and rescue courses in Canada’s far north.  Since 2020, Robin has built a Data Science and Engineering Team at Public Safety that conducts quantitative risk assessments using data, models, and geomatics to understand the impacts of natural hazards such as floods, earthquakes, and wildfires on Canadians.  His team has recently focused on financial risk assessments, including climate-impacted forward looking risk assessments to better understand the impacts of climate change on the insurance and finance sectors.  The next steps for his team are supporting major policy programs on flood risk communication, safeguarding federal investments, and supporting post-disaster financial aid for Canadians.  He’s always on the lookout for motivated people who want to apply their technical skills to solving real-world problems.
