Denis holds a Bachelor in Geodetic Sciences from Laval University; he is a Québec Land Surveyor. He worked 35 years in the Public Service of Canada, 20 years with Fisheries and Oceans Canada for the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), including 2 years for the Canadian Coast Guard; plus 15 years with Natural Resources Canada, primarily as National Director of the Canadian Geodetic Survey. He retired in 2018 as Director General CHS & Hydrographer General of Canada, in Ottawa, Canada. He is still very active internationally as an Hydrospatial advocate via the company H2i.
