Introduction

While data protection regulations are adopted by a growing number of countries, there are some divergences in their adoption. Some jurisdictions also question the universal nature of the right to privacy. This session will explore the commonalities and differences across regions, as well as look for the common principles and discuss the universal nature of the right to privacy.

Key questions and objectives

  • Are privacy and personal data protection universal rights by essence?
  • What are the common principles and points of divergence?
  • How can international cooperation and convergence be reinforced among jurisdictions?
