Introduction

Medical research often requires accessing large data sets from various geographic regions to avoid any bias in the results. This session will discuss the needs, opportunities, and challenges for sharing medical data beyond borders. The EHDS provides a mechanism for such international cooperation. How will it work in practice? What are the constraints in other jurisdictions? This session brings together experts to discuss strategies to foster international cooperation for medical research worldwide.

Key questions and objectives

  • What are the key challenges and barriers associated with the international transfer of health and medical data for research?
  • How will EHDS work in practice to support international data transfers for research?
  • How can frameworks be established to facilitate responsible and ethical international data transfer while ensuring data protection for patients?
  • What are the best practices in international collaborations for health and medical research, and how can they be applied to future efforts?
