Amer Abu-Houran

Amer is currently based in Manhattan, New York City. He works at UNIS (United Nations International School), which is one of the founding schools of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and was among those awarding the first diplomas in the world. Amer has worked at different international IB schools over the past 19+ years as a teacher, Head of Department, Deputy, Director, and Head of School. In addition to serving as a Board Member (BoD and BoT) at different educational institutions and initiatives (NGOs), he is also an IB Examiner for Computer Science, IB Curriculum Reviewer, IB Workshop Leader for both MYP & DP, and an Accreditation Evaluation Team Member at the Council of International Schools (CIS).

Amer is originally from Jordan, splitting his time between Jordan and the U.S. over the past several years. He holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. He was chosen as a Harvard University Fellow for its Middle East Professional Learning Initiative (MEPLI) for 2019 and 2020, and he is among the first cohort to finish the School Certification in Leadership and Management from Harvard Graduate School of Education and Harvard Business School (2021).

Amer is an early adopter of new technologies. He is also passionate about STEM, Astrophysics, and Space Exploration, as he is currently working on developing an IB-SBS for DP Astronomy. In his spare time, Amer enjoys digital photography and playing the guitar and piano.
