Abstract of MDA Keynote: Canada is the world leader in wide area space-based radar Earth observation through the highly successful RADARSAT program, supporting numerous operational and scientific uses for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data.

MDA, in conjunction with the Canadian government, has created an internationally recognized brand and reputation for excellence in near-real time, broad area SAR data for mission critical applications. MDA intends to build upon this success by investing in our own commercial synthetic aperture radar satellite constellation that will reinforce Canada's reputation and relevance in this area on the world stage.

MDA's new SAR constellation will change how and when we see the world. It will carry forward many of the strong attributes of the prior SAR programs and bring forward innovative new technologies and operations concepts to deliver a significantly enhanced capability.

The new constellation will provide operational continuity to the existing SAR satellites thereby extending MDA's market leading geospatial data, products and analytics business well into the future. At the same time, this new mission will be highly complementary to the current SAR Canadian government programs, and will provide additional capability.

Through this endeavour, and other initiatives, MDA intends to play a significant role in creating and sustaining a vibrant space ecosystem in Canada, including Space-Based Earth Observation companies, academia and government.
