The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), one the oldest UN agencies, serves a dual role in the international arena. Not only does is it the United Nations agency for information and communication technologies, it also functions as an international standards developing organization (SDO).

In line with its duties as an international SDO, Bridging the Standardization Gap (BSG) is a fundamental part of ITU's mission to connect the world. Through this programme, ITU seeks to address the disparities in the ability of developing ​​countries, to participate in the international standards developing process at ITU.

This session will provide an overview of ITU Bridging the Standardization Gap programme, followed by a short exercise which will provide the audience with an understanding of the standards making process at ITU.
