Milton Lima
My name is Milton Lima and I am a Science teacher at STEM Early High School in Vance County, North Carolina since August 2018. I am thrilled to work in a STEM school in the United States. I grew up and had my teaching experiences in Brazil and I am so grateful to have the best profession in the world. I have worked with all age levels in my career and I love going to work every day to see my students face when learning finally happens. This is very noticeable when working with teenagers, especially. At this stage of life, they have many expectations, insecurities, they are starting their particular worldviews, trying and making mistakes. And at those times the role of the teacher is delicate. I cannot be too strict in my opinions, I cannot be too closed, too Cartesian. But I also can't be evasive, too open. I have learned that knowing how to communicate is also knowing how to listen. It looks difficult and it really is. But it is very beautiful.and passionate.
I am a proud product of the Brazilian education with a great experience in North America. I grew up in Sao Paulo, Brazil and attended primary and secondary school there. After graduating high school, I went to State University of Campinas where I received my bachelors degree in Biology and Education. Later, I moved to Toronto, Canada to receive a Certification in Biochemistry. After 2 years living in the United States I received my Masters degree in STEM Education from the American College of Education. In addition, I am proud to have become a member of the US National Institute of STEM Education (NISE).
