Ronald Ben was a STEM Specialist for three years at Wesley Elementary School an Aerospace Academy in Houston ISD.  His duties included developing a STEM program from the ground up in and underserved community. In order to develop a culture of STEM at all levels he did the following at Wesley:  (1) developed professional development opportunities, (2) created several STEM based activities, (3) designed Aerospace/Aviation STEM classes, (4) analyzed STEM content and equipment to be purchased for the campus, (5) coordinated meetings and developed relationships with potential partners, (6) developed implementation plans to revamp aesthetics of the campus to further STEM awareness, (7) handled a 2.5-million-dollar budget, (9) planned STEM summer camps, (10) built STEM based clubs (robotics, gardening, coding. Before that he taught middle school science for 15 years, predominately 6th and 8th grade classes.  Currently he serves as an Education Coordinator for NASA’s Micro-g NExT design challenge.  Micro-g Neutral Buoyancy Experiment Design Teams (Micro-g NExT) challenges undergraduate students to design, build, and test a tool or device that addresses an authentic, current space exploration challenge. The overall experience includes hands-on engineering design, test operations, and public outreach. The 2021 Micro-g NExT challenges focus on aspects of the Artemis mission.
