Carla J. Siegfried, MD is the Jacquelyn E. and Allan E. Kolker, MD Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Vice Chair of Diversity, Equity and Professionalism at Washington University in St. Louis. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, she attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City combined Baccalaureate / MD program. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago followed by a glaucoma fellowship at Northwestern University.
She has held teaching roles as Residency Program Director, Glaucoma Fellowship Director, and Medical Student Coursemaster. Her research has focused on oxidative stress and racial disparities of glaucoma. Dr. Siegfried has served on numerous committees and leadership positions in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Glaucoma Society. She is currently Chairperson of the AAO Ethics Committee. Her honors include the AAO Secretariat and Senior Achievement Awards, the Shaffer Prize from the Glaucoma Research Foundation for innovative glaucoma research and was inducted into the American Ophthalmological Society in 2019.
