Participates in 1 Session

Juan is currently working as a research assistant at the Geospatial Centre of Biodiversity Pathways, located at the University of Northern British Columbia. His research interests span landscape ecology, biodiversity conservation, and the integration of science with policy and practice. For his PhD, Juan is looking at the impacts of human pressure on habitat fragmentation and its relation to species extinction risk at a global scale. Previously, he was a senior researcher for the National Forest and Carbon Monitoring System of Colombia, focusing on forest degradation monitoring using remote sensing and field data. During his master's studies, he assessed the impacts of deforestation and fragmentation of seasonal tropical forests in the southern Yucatán, Mexico, using remote sensing data. Juan is passionate about utilizing tools to better understand human-environment relationships affecting biodiversity patterns and ecological processes, aiming to provide actionable information for policymakers and practitioners.
