Participates in 1 Session
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky completed her undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Toronto, followed by fellowship training in uveitis at McGill University and post-fellowship training in retina and uveitis at the U of T Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences (DOVS). Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky was appointed Lecturer in the DOVS in 2000, promoted to Assistant Professor in 2008 then to her current position as Chief of the Uveitis Service in 2013. In addition, she is on staff at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Kensington Eye Institute and St. Michael’s Hospital.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky actively participates in resident clinical and surgical teaching in the DOVS. Research activities have included a resident-led quality-improvement project on wait times for uveitis consults in Toronto, and a study on clinical features of infectious posterior uveitis at St. Michael’s Hospital. She recently published on cataract surgery outcomes in uveitis and IgG4 panuveitis. Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky is primary investigator on a resident-led multidisciplinary and translational research project on PCR utilization in anterior uveitis cases, which was awarded a grant from the DOVS Pilot Research Grant Competition in December 2016.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky participated on an Ontario Task Force for Uveitis Care that established standardized criteria for immunomodulatory treatment for uveitis (MOHTLC Exceptional Access Program) and developed a standardized communication tool for use between ophthalmologists and rheumatologists. This tool will be used for a new Uveitis Registry in Ontario, which Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky will be launching with the Task Force for Uveitis Care. She was President of the Canadian Uveitis Society from 2010-2013, during which time she worked closely with the Canadian Ophthalmological Society and the Ontario Rheumatology Association to increase awareness of uveitis at the provincial and federal government levels. She has also been the Canadian representative at the International Ocular Inflammation Society since 2013.
Dr. Derzko-Dzulynsky enjoys various sports and outdoor activities including cycling and skiing, as well as spending time with her family. She has raised funds for The Foundation Fighting Blindness through her participation in Cycle for Sight.
