Medical Student Symposium: Building a Foundation in Clinical Ophthalmology

How:

This is the first medical student symposium at the COS annual meeting. There will be keynote presentations on handling stress in medicine and an introduction to high yield clinical topics in ophthalmology. There will also be hands-on clinical skills sessions and breakout discussions with resident mentors. This symposia is hosted by the Council of Canadian Ophthalmology Residents (CCOR) and the Canadian Ophthalmology Student Interest Group (COSIG).

 

Learning Objectives: 

At the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of strategies for trainee wellness and leadership in academic medicine.
  • Develop an approach to the history, physical exam, differential diagnoses, and management plan to clinical cases that may be encountered in a comprehensive ophthalmology clinical rotation.
  • Demonstrate basic skills in assessment of extraocular muscle alignment and intravitreal injection using simulation-based education.
  • Engage in small-group mentorship with resident physicians.
