Fernanda Faini is a tenure track researcher (RTT) in legal informatics (GIUR-17/A - Philosophy of law) at the Department of Law of the Pegaso Telematic University.
She is lecturer in ‘Digital law and legal informatics’, ‘Data science for strategic decisions’, ‘Innovation & cybersecurity management for PA’, ‘Philosophy of law’ and ‘General theory of law and interpretation’.
She is a Research Delegate of the Department of Law of the Pegaso Telematic University, specifically in charge of calls for tenders and relations with APRE (Agency for the Promotion of European Research).
Member of the Centre for Environmental, sustainability and governance studies (ESG) and TechEthicsObs - Observatory for the Ethics of New Technologies, she is Principal Investigator of the Research Project ‘Data Law and Management: Legal and managerial governance of data between valorisation and security in the geopolitical intelligence perspective’ and member of the PRA Research Project “Sustainable innovation in cultural and creative industries: emerging technologies, business intelligence systems and data-driven business models”.
She graduated cum laude in Law from the University of Florence and PhD in Law and New Technologies with distinction from the University of Bologna.
She has been a research fellow and lecturer in Legal Informatics, ICT & Law and New Technologies Law at the University of Pisa, the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, the University of Florence, the International Telematic University Uninettuno and at other university courses and masters.
She has obtained the national scientific qualification as associate professor of Philosophy of Law and Private Law.
In 2022 she won the VII Vittorio Frosini International Prize in Legal Informatics and Information Technology Law.
Affiliate scholar of the Information Society Law Center (ISLC) of the University of Milan, he is a fellow of the Italian Academy of the Internet Code (IAIC), a member of the Informatics Workshop on ‘Law, Ethics, Technology’ (DET) of the CRID Research Centre of the University of Modena, Member of the Interdepartmental Centre on ‘Law and Frontier Technologies’ (DETECT) of the University of Pisa and member of the Steering Committee of the Research Unit ‘Blockchains and Artificial Intelligence for Business, Economics and Law’ (BABEL) of the University of Florence. Member of the ‘Big Data Committee’ of Istat, of the task force on artificial intelligence promoted by AgID and of the group of experts on distributed ledger and blockchain technologies of the Ministry of Economic Development, she has coordinated national consultations and working groups on reforms in this field and was President of the national association Circolo dei Giuristi Telematici.
A member of research centres and groups, editorial and scientific committees, expert groups and government task forces, and programme committees of international conferences, she is a member of scientific associations (including the Circolo dei Giuristi Telematici, of which she was President) and is an organiser and speaker at national and international conferences and conventions.
She is the author of over 60 publications, including 3 monographs: "Legal Science and Information Technology. Temi e problemi" with Stefano Pietropaoli (second completely revised, updated and integrated edition, Giappichelli, 2021), "Data society. Governo dei dati e tutela dei diritti nell'era digitale" (Giuffrè Francis Lefebvre, 2019) and “Scienza giuridica e tecnologie informatiche” with Stefano Pietropaoli (Giappichelli, 2017).
